Check your BAC!

Owners : Asahi
“Check your BAC!” is an initiative of Kompania Piwowarska in Poland to discourage drinking and driving and eliminate drunk drivers on Polish roads, by promoting consumer awareness of the impact of alcohol on the human body and by giving people a chance to check their blood alcohol content (BAC). A mobile phone application measures expected BAC after having consumed various kinds of alcohol has been made available. KP has been consistently working on improvements: it was developed the ability to check not only the level of alcohol but also calories. The app was downloaded by 3,497 people in 2021.
Driving vehicles under the influence of alcohol is one of Poland’s biggest social issues linked to alcohol (in addition to underage drinking). Kompania Piwowarska sponsors several large one-day or multi-day mass events where its beer is sold and festivalgoers come to those events by car. Having drunk beer at the event, they cannot be 100% certain, even the following morning, whether they can already drive a car. The need to ensure they are sober and safe to drive back home (and help them avoid very severe criminal penalties for drink-driving) gave rise to the idea of “Check your BAC!” zones, which were set up at the biggest mass events where KP beer is sold.
In the summer months of 2015-2019, the Check your BAC! mobile zone was set up at 61 mass events. Over 330,000 people underwent professional breathalyser tests which showed whether they could drive a car or not, and in addition, over 110,000 alco-goggle animation activities were carried out.

Despite the current epidemic restrictions in 2021 and 2022, KP set up “Check your BAC!” zones at 12 mass events sponsored by our brand. In these zones, it was possible to use professional breathalysers and safely get back home from the event. Over 89,000 people underwent professional breathalyser tests which showed whether they could drive a car or not, and in addition, over 10,000 alco-goggle animation activities were carried out.
